- Fuqua released their essays and deadlines today. As of today, all essays for my target schools have been published.
- I’m going to push HBS to R2. Since HBS is a hail mary, it doesn’t make sense to apply in R1. I have a huge work project that ends December 1, which will give me ample time to work on the HBS and Columbia apps due early January. Only Kellogg has yet to release their deadlines. Judging from last year, it is mid-Oct, so I’m looking at 3 R1 and 2 R2.
- Kellogg essays are at about 40% right now. I have rough drafts or outlines for all of the essays and its just time to step back and revise. I’ve set an artificial deadline for the following Monday so that I can send my first set of drafts to my friend for critique.
- I’ve tentatively scheduled my visits to Columbia and Duke for early October. I’ll fly to NYC (right after a 20-mile run, so I’ll be hobbling) on Sunday night, stay at a friend’s place in Washington Heights, hopefully do a host visit at Columbia and sit in on some classes on Monday (to be confirmed since their fall visit program form isn’t up to date). Monday night, fly from JFK to RDU that and check into hotel. Head to Fuqua Tuesday morning for interview/class visit/campus tour/lunch. Fly home Tuesday night or early the next morning. Right now, my multi-city flight looks to be under $500, which is great. + cost of 2 nights hotel in Durham (I’m not picky when its on my dime) & car rental = not bad.
- My Fuqua interview is a bit early in the cycle. It’ll be about a month prior to my application due date, so I definitely have to concurrently prepare. The good thing is that my day at Fuqua will give me ample fodder for “Why Duke?” and help me gauge whether I’ll survive in North Carolina for two years.
- Won’t visit HBS unless I get an interview invite. Need to schedule Kellogg and Haas visits.
- Third and final recommender has been contacted (I’ve only had three supervisors in my 7 year career). Now I have to decide who I want to write what.
